Barclays Just Launched an Amazing New Card With Airline Transfer Partners, Here’s What You Need to Know

Barclays launched the brand new Barclays Arrival Premier World Elite Mastercard yesterday alongside a new miles transfer program. The Barclays Arrival Premier World Elite Mastercard was a long-awaited travel credit card that built a lot of speculation. We finally know what’s part of the Arrivals Premier World Elite Mastercard. Here’s everything you need to know about the Barclays Arrivals Premier World Elite Mastercard.

The Barclays Arrival Premier World Elite Mastercard – What Is It?

The Barclays Arrival Premier World Elite Mastercard is Barclay’s new premium travel credit card. Benefits are fairly similar to Barclay’s previous credit cards however, there are a few added benefits and the addition of a long-awaited miles transfer program.

Earning Miles With The Barclays Arrival Premier World Elite Mastercard

While unfortunately there is no sign-up bonus per se, earning miles with this new card shouldn’t be a problem. The Barclays Arrival Premier World Elite Mastercard is fairly unique as it relates to earning miles. Here’s a breakdown of how you earn miles with the new Barclays Arrival Premier World Elite Mastercard.

A Baseline 2x Miles on Everday Purchases

The baseline earning rate with the Arrival Premier World Elite Mastercard is 2 miles per dollar spent. That’s a very impressive earning rate as it’s on everyday purchases not just on purchases made with airlines or hotels. However, on top of the 2x miles on everyday purchases, there are additional opportunities to rack up miles.

Spend $15,000 with the card in a cardmembership year and earn 15,000 miles

However, there’s yet another opportunity to earn some bonus miles. The card allows cardholders to earn up to 25,000 bonus miles in a calendar year.

Spend $10,000 on top of $15,000 with the card in a cardmembership year and earn an additional 10,000 miles

This means you could potentially earn 25,000 bonus miles in a cardmembership year — that’s on top of 2x miles on everyday purchases

These are some very impressive earning rates. Though you might have to be somewhat of a big spender to reap all of the benefits of this card, there are ways modest spenders can earn miles as well. To earn the introductory 15,000 miles you’d have to spend just $1250 a month. That’s a fairly reasonable amount. Additionally, this bonus offer is available each year to the cardmember.

If you spend $25,000 in a cardmembership year you’ll earn 50,000 miles (25k*2) plus 25,000 miles on top of that 50,000 already earned. That’s 75,000 miles in a cardmembership year.

Redeeming Miles With The Barclays Arrival Premier World Elite Mastercard

So, you can potentially earn a nice amount of miles with this new card but that’s just one component of any travel credit card. The fun part we all know is redeeming miles. The best part of this new card is the new transfer program that accompanies it.

Barclay Card launched a brand new miles transfer program elevating Barclays to other card-issuers. Here’s a list of partners and the transfer rates.

Premier Points to Program Points

  • Air France and KLM Flying Blue – 1.4:1
  • Aeromexico Club Premier – 1.4:1
  • China Eastern Airlines Eastern Miles – 1.4:1
  • Etihad Guest – 1.4:1
  • EVA Air Infinity MileageLands – 1.4:1
  • JAL Mileage Bank – 1.7:1
  • Jet Airways JetPrivilege – 1.4:1
  • Malaysia Airlines Enrich – 1.4:1
  • Qantas Frequent Flyer – 1.4:1

That’s a pretty extensive and diverse list of transfer programs. Though none of them are US carriers, every program listed partners with at least one US airline and many of those airlines are part of a major airline alliance. That said, there are ample opportunities to move miles around or redeem miles on partners.

The transfer rates are also quite generous. For example, with Aeromexico Club Premier, if you earned 75,000 premier points, you could have a little over 53,000 Club Premier miles.

The Benefits of The Barclays Arrival Premier World Elite Mastercard

The Barclays Arrival Premier World Elite Mastercard also comes with a suite of benefits. It’s by no means a super-premium card like the American Express Platinum Card but it’s certainly a great blend of both practicality and premium benefits. Additionally, every benefit of the card is very practical. Every cardholder will definitely be able to use every benefit while traveling. Here’s a full list of benefits.

  • $100 Statement Credit for Global Entry every five years
  • Complimentary Lounge Key membership (essentially Priority Pass Select)
  • No Foreign Transaction Fees
  • $0 Fraud Liability
  • Complimentary FICO Score

Access 800+ Airport Lounges Worldwide with Lounge Key

Again, the Barclays Arrival Premier World Elite Mastercard is by no means loaded with premium benefits but it only bears a $150 annual fee. With a $150 annual fee, you’re still able to access a variety of airport lounges and get free Global Entry (which comes with TSAPreCheck). It’s probably one of the best deals out there.

Overall – The Barclays Arrival Premier World Elite Mastercard

The Barclays Arrival Premier World Elite Mastercard offers great earning rates, better than most other cards. Additionally, cardholders have access to a very diverse line up of frequent flyer programs to transfer miles. At just $150 a year, I like to think of the free Global Entry credit and lounge access as just an added bonus. If there’s one new travel card you should consider, I’d highly recommend the Barclays Arrival Premier World Elite Mastercard given the amazing earning potential and unique transfer partners.
