Airline uniform design is frequently in the news lately, with several airlines choosing 2019 to update their image. Aer Lingus and British Airways plan on new uniforms next year and American Airlines is also doing the same thing.
American Airlines is first cab off the rank, with their employees choosing between two designs. One was called “Skybound” and the other “Modern Voyage”, with the latter being selected by a vote.
American Airlines Uniform Design
Field testing of the new uniform starts in November 2018, running through to the end of April 2019. Implementation of the new uniform will then take place in the last quarter of 2019.
This is just the first phase of the uniform design. Another wave of choices will be available from the first quarter of 2021, which will enhance the collection. And a collection it is, with a number of different variations available.
The new American pieces are all being extensively tested to ensure they are not toxic to employees which I am sure will be appreciated. The previous Twin Hill produced uniforms which arrived in 2016 apparently caused health issues for a lot of people.
Hopefully everything goes well this time. It is unusual for a carrier to replace the uniforms after such a short amount of time in service, but in this case it does make sense.
Should the uniform design be a success, we will probably see them cladding American Airlines employees for many years to come. I’m interested to see how the giant scarves look on board – hopefully they won’t get in the way.
