If you like earning points through credit card sign-up bonuses, the revamped Marriott Bonvoy Amex (Canada) cards are a good opportunity to earn a stack of Marriott Bonvoy points. Both, the Personal and Business cards come with increased signup bonus of 60,000 Marriott Bonvoy points. Its best to maximize on new offers when in two-player mode, that is signing up for new credit cards with your partner, family or friends (in the household) and pooling to get maximum value. You can apply for the personal and business cards, for a combined bonus of 240,000 Marriott Bonvoy points. Which is exactly what we did. Here is my strategy for the points earned through the Marriott Bonvoy Amex cards. But first, a quick glance at both the cards and their features;

Two-player strategy with Marriott Bonvoy Amex

The updated Marriott transfer policy allows you to transfer up to 100,000 points per year to another Bonvoy member. If you should transfer the 100K in one go, will depend on your account balances and what you plan to do with your points. Lets look at the best redemption options for the combined bonus of 240,000 Marriott Bonvoy points:

  1. Current Marriott redemption chart – On the higher end, 240,000 points are good for 4 nights at a Cat-7 property. Since Marriott offers 5th night free benefit, its best to book 5 nights!

2. Marriott Bonvoy points transfer to several airlines at 3:1 ratio. 240,000 points would yield 80,000 miles. However, Marriott adds a 5K bonus on every 60K transferred, which results in a cool 100,000 miles!! Better yet, some airline rewards program offer a bonus when converting Marriott points. United offers a 10% bonus, BA Avios has a 30% bonus promotion on all hotel points transfers until March 31st, 2019. Aeroplan wont be far with their conversion bonus which routinely offers 30% bonus on hotel points transfer. With a 30% bonus, 240,000 Marriott Bonvoy points can convert to 130,000 Avios or Aeroplan miles!

Take Away

A two-player mode has long been the favorite way to maximize gains, in my household. In this case, the new Marriott Bonvoy Amex Cards yield a cool 240K in sign-up bonuses and not to mention, 4 annual night awards (anniversary perk) each year!

Are you planning on getting the new Bonvoy Amex cards? If so, do consider doing it in partnerships 🙂
