The Mayflower Renaissance Washington, DC Hotel

I recently completed a stay at one of my favorite DC hotels, The Mayflower, a Renaissance hotel. I can’t put my finger on any one thing that attracts me to this hotel. Instead, it’s a combination of style, history, service, and old school DC that attract me to The Mayflower, a hotel with a history fitting of its own Wikipedia page. 🙂

Arriving via taxi, bell service was on it by opening my door and offering assistance with luggage immediately upon arriving. I didn’t need any of that, so I made my way to the front desk for check in where I was immediately assisted by a perfectly pleasant front desk agent. He thanked me for my loyalty as a Marriott Rewards Gold member, advised me of the location of the Concierge Lounge, it’s hours, and had me on my way to my 10th floor room in a minute or two.

The Room

My 10th floor room, 1081, a King Deluxe, was more than adequate for a solo business traveler. Nice work area and desk, good TV, fast internet, bath, and best of all, a comfortable Marriott king bed. While it wasn’t quite the same as the suite I received during my last stay, it did the trick for a one night business trip. I snapped a few photos for good measure. Around the Hotel

I didn’t have time to hit the fitness center or play much during this trip, but I’ll tell you a few things I’ve found to be pretty solid near The Mayflower. Morton’s Steakhouse is a great spot for dinner, and this location even has an outdoor patio. Be advised they allow cigar smoking there. That is a plus in my book, but I know it might not be for everyone. If you choose to dine in the bar, you will get an occasional whiff of cigar smoke from outside as servers and patrons transit in and out. DC Metro’s Farragut North Station offers Red Line service and is just steps from the hotel. Turn left after you exit the front door..you won’t miss it a few steps away. Taxis are also plentiful at The Mayflower and can take you anywhere in the city. Don’t forget DC Uber either!!!! I recently posted about my favorite things in DC. All of them are easily reachable from The Mayflower via taxi, Uber, or Metro.

The Bottom Line

This old school DC hotel is on my DC favorites list. Grand style and great service are all synonymous with The Mayflower. Check it out on your next DC visit.
