OK…. Take it for what you will and no matter what you think about the whole AA vs Alec Baldwin thing, this did make me laugh. Alec Baldwin showed up on Saturday Night Live last night calling himself Captain Steve Rogers. Note: He’s in a copilot’s uniform, but I digress.
See for yourself. (Link to NBC site)

Agree with Oliver. Not to mention it’s a lot easier to keep control of 2 devices in the cockpit that are being operated by people that you know are operating them within certain protocols than it is 200 in the back.
Kalboz, regarding iPads in the cockpit… Maybe they (Airlines, FAA) feel comfortable with testing and certifying one particular device type (just like all the other gear already installed in the cockpit), but not allow random other gear that a pax might bring on the plane? Do you want to have the FAs determine if a particular tablet is allowed (because it’s the right brand/model), but not the one the guy in the next seat is using? Much easier to say “turn off everything that has an on/off switch”. I am an engineer, and I don’t feel qualified to judge what… Read more »
# 5 because that is what they tell us when we fly. So, you are saying that the airliner (and other passengers) need everyone’s total attention when taking-off or landing, and, hence, the ban?
Why does everyone think the electronic ban is because of some kind of interference? It’s there so that if there is an emergency your not stuck next to some idiot who has no clue whats going on and has his laptop out flying across the plane.
Brilliant. I thought it was a spot on parody of the entire situation. While I don’t agree with his over reaction on the plane, as somebody who has been frustrated with the airlines I must say it is gratifying to have somebody be able to rip them in the public eye. After all he is a celebrity who can afford a ban from an airline while I would not.
I don’t think this fiasco has made AA or Alec look good but it is funny to watch!
Hahha, this was a great laugh. Don’t take yourself too seriously, folks!
I read at multiple places that pilots regularly use iPads or iPhone applications for their flight calculations in the cockpit without any problems. So why do we have this FAA prohibition to disallow electronics usage on take-off & landing.
Don’t find it particularly funny. AB seems to come across as an idiot and a bully in this whole AA episode. Or maybe I should say, as a Baldwin.
