Chile’s LAN has been flying to Australia for many years. When that airline took over Brazil’s TAM and became LATAM, the services from Santiago to Sydney continued as usual, via a stop in Auckland.

One benefit of this stop is that LATAM have traffic rights between Australia and New Zealand. You can fly business class between Auckland and Sydney for a competitive rate and on a superb product.

Santiago to Sydney Non-Stop

At present, LATAM fly daily from Santiago to Sydney via Auckland. The crew stop in Auckland, overnight, do Auckland-Sydney-Auckland the following day, overnight, then fly back.

From November 2019, three of the flights will fly non-stop from Santiago to Sydney, while the other four will continue to go via Auckland. This is great news for those who enjoy the breakfast flight out of Auckland.

Apparently the schedule will mean a daily service non-stop from Sydney, though it will be across two airlines. The three LATAM non-stops will operate on the days when Qantas are not operating their four weekly services.

On the flipside, LATAM will reduce Santiago to Melbourne from five times per week to three times per week. The aircraft will also change from the larger Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner to the more petite Boeing 787-8.

Overall Thoughts

When it comes to LATAM, I have nothing but praise for their business class service. Each time I have been on board, I have thoroughly enjoyed the service, food and seats. It’s generally three hours of pleasure between Auckland and Sydney.

Flying from Australia to South America is a long journey, with flight times up in the region of 14 hours. Well, you shouldn’t be surprised, getting anywhere from Australia does take quite a number of hours.
