Background:

My friends and I wanted to celebrate our friends 21st Birthday in San Diego! Rates for the particular weekend were quite pricey, and the Manchester Grand Hyatt San Diego was over $400 for a standard room (including tax + destination fee).

Thankfully, I had a Category 1-4 Certificate that I get yearly from my Hyatt Chase Card so I put that to good use! The Manchester Grand Hyatt San Diego is a Category 4 Hotel under World of Hyatt, which I find is a good value due to the expensive rates seen here.

Check In:

After self parking in the garage ($35/night) we headed downstairs to check-in. Until about mid August, the lobby is outside in front of the porte-cochère which is very interesting. This is temporary, as they are renovating the main lobby.

Service was friendly, and the hotel emailed me and texted me before to make sure everything was set for my stay! When we asked for an item to be delivered to the room, they came quickly as well.

The Room:

I booked a room with 2 Queen Beds, and the room was located on the 24th floor of the Harbor Tower with a great view of both the harbor and the city!

The room was very clean, and it had two large chairs next to the window. The room was also stocked with a mini-fridge and a tea/coffee maker. Two complimentary bottles of water were provided.

The beds were very comfortable, as well as the pillows! Definitely up to the Grand Hyatt standard.

The bathroom was a standard basic 3 piece bathroom.

I truly enjoyed the beautiful view of both Downtown San Diego and the Marina!

Destination Fee:

As we were only here for a night, we didn’t get to explore much of the hotel itself. So unfortunately, we didn’t get to utilize the inclusions of the “Destination Fee” that is charged to your room. It’s essentially the exact same as a “resort fee” and includes many things, some highlights of which include:

  • $10 nightly food & beverage credit (valid only Top of the Hyatt and Grand Lobby Bar)
  • One Craft Beer (valid only at Brew30 California Taps)
  • High speed premium internet
  • 24 hour fitness center access

Thankfully, with points + certificate redemptions, the destination fee is waived!

Location:

The location is pretty good right in Seaport Village, right on the marina where there also a lot of shops and restaurants. Additionally, it is only about a mile from the Gaslamp District (food + nightlife).

The Verdict:

Overall, the Manchester Grand Hyatt San Diego is a nice hotel to stay at when visiting San Diego. When my travels bring me back to SD, I’ll be sure to keep an eye out on this one!

Cheers,

Ty
