Background:

I booked the Doubletree Denver Stapleton North as it had a rate of just $90 a night when all the other 3.5/4 star hotels in Denver were upwards of $130. I did notice there were many negative reviews, due to the fact that the new Colorado A- line commuter rail train passes right outside the hotel and they are facing issues with it being a “quiet zone”. Currently, the train has to sound its horn as it crosses the intersection with the hotel, but the hotel is currently working on making it a quiet zone so that the train wouldn’t sound its horn every time it passes. The rate was too good to pass up, so I decided to take the risk. I’m glad I did because I had a good stay!

Quick Summary: With newly refreshed rooms and excellent service, the hotel is a solid choice. Just make sure to get a room facing the inner courtyard and away from the train line.

Pre-Arrival:

I was a bit worried about how noisy the train line would be particularly because I am a pretty light sleeper. The “Courtyard View” rooms looking into the center of the hotel (away from the tracks and/or streets) cost a bit more, but I just booked the standard room and wanted to see if at check-in perhaps the upgrade would be cheaper.

I booked direct with Doubletree, so I decided to do the Hilton Honors mobile check-in and choose my exact room. Love this feature!! I was ecstatic to find out that I was able to choose a “Courtyard View” room at no extra charge! Since the floorplans are so detailed on mobile check-in, it made it easy for me to choose a room on the corner, facing the courtyard, furthest away from the train tracks. 🙂

Check-In:

There was a small queue at check-in, but I was helped in just 5 minutes. A interesting (and a bit funny) scene I witnessed was one of the guests checking in came to the wrong Doubletree! There’s a DoubleTree Denver, located on Quebec St. just like this hotel! This Doubletree is the Denver Stapleton North location, so make sure which one you’re staying at. 🙂 What are the odds that both Doubletree’s are on Quebec St?!

The front desk agent was super nice and helpful and of course provided me with the famous Doubletree Cookie! Yummmm! She also told me I got one of the best (quietest) rooms as it was furthest from the train tracks (Room 476).

 

The Room:

The room was renovated very tastefully. I really liked the furnishings, and everything seemed to be pretty good quality. The bathroom was a bit small, but still nice. I really appreciated how clean everything in the room was!

Due to the train noise, the hotel provides ear plugs (which I used and might I add that they were very comfortable). They also can provide white noise machines upon request and have a “tranquility” TV channel.

The beds + pillows were pretty comfortable and it allowed me to get a good night’s rest! I also love the vast number of power ports and USB charging.

Well?! How was the noise??

Okay, the noise was actually not that bad! You could hear the train horn every 7 min or so, but it wasn’t that loud. But I also was at the room the furthest from the train tracks at the hotel, so I’m not sure how bad it would be if you were closer to the tracks/facing the tracks.

With our AC set to high, my friends didn’t have a problem sleeping and didn’t notice the train at all. For me, I put on the ear plugs they provided and slept like a baby. 🙂

Amenities + Departure:

There is a small sundries shop located next to the front desk, and sadly I didn’t have time to check out the fitness center. I could see the outdoor pool from my room but it was closed for the season I assume.

Check-out was pleasant, and the front desk agent gave me cookies for my journey home 🙂

I really have to applaud the service here, the front desk even texted me right after I checked in to make sure I didn’t need anything, and asked how my stay was going!

Location:

I do have to point out that the location is a bit awkward. It’s at this odd intersection that confuses a lot of Uber drivers and looks a bit rundown. With a car though, it’s easy to get to the The Shops at Northfield Stapleton which I really liked! Only 2 miles away, with a Super Target and some nice restaurants + shops.

After we returned our car2go, we took an Uber from Downtown Denver (7-8 miles) which cost us $20.

The Verdict:

Overall, I was very happy with my stay and I hope they can get the hotel zone as a designated quiet zone for the train in the near future!
