My personal favourite sale is when the oneworld airlines offer business class return flights to the USA for around €1,000. That is a very decent price in my book, and one to be taken advantage of.

In this case, you can fly British Airways, Iberia or Finnair on your transatlantic flight. The one caveat is that you will have to start in Germany which is where the sale fare originates. Still, it’s easy to reach Germany cheaply from anywhere in Europe, right?

Return Flights Sale

Cities on sale include Frankfurt, Dusseldorf and Berlin to places like New York, Boston, Philadelphia and Chicago. Prices are from €1,014 return to New York, €1,024 to Boston, €1,073 to Philadelphia and €1,170 to Chicago.

You will route from Germany to London and onwards with British Airways, or to Madrid and onwards with Iberia or to Helsinki and onwards with Finnair. At least one person has reported they have booked BA1 from London City to New York, the exclusive Airbus A318 service in this sale.

Travel dates for this sale are quite specific, but run at various times over the next 12 months. The first set of outbound dates are 23 to 28 November, and you need to come back between 29 November and 1 December. The next set start next year, flying out between 26 March and 12 April 2020, and returning between 28 March and 15 April 2020.

The final set of dates is much longer. Outbound flights need to be booked between 26 June an 22 August 2020 with the returns between 3 July and 26 August 2020. Despite the windows of opportunity, I think anyone should be able to do something with these.

Overall Thoughts

The only times I have crossed the Atlantic in First Class were due to a €1,000 sale. I booked the flights from Prague to Washington DC and upgraded the London to Dulles to First Class using my Avios. Now that was a fun experience!

If you are thinking it’s a bit of an effort to get to Germany, I will remind you that even with the additional flight cost, these fares are a substantial saving over the regular price. Well worth it, especially if you’ve never done it before.
