The good people at Japan Airlines are introducing new uniforms for all employees from April 2020. Selected by a committee who considered the basic concept as well as the cost, the feedback gained is that they are stylish and modern.
These were designed by Yasutoshi Ezumi, who was born in 1981 in Hiroshima, Japan. As well as customer facing staff, ground handling, engineering and flight crew will all receive new pieces.
New Uniforms For Cabin Crew and Ground Staff
You can see the new cabin crew uniforms at the top of this article and ground staff have a variation on the theme. More then 20 colours were required to produce the scarves.
According to the Japan Airlines press release which contains images of all the different new uniforms, the pink-beige represents the formality of the airline’s lounges.
What About Flight Crew?
Up at the pointy end, the pilots have not been forgotten. For the first time ever, there is a separate uniform for female members of the flying fraternity.
With a scarf motif being that of an origami crane, it certainly contrasts with the more traditional tie that the men wear. Considering many female pilots uniforms are identical to those worn by male crew members, it’s nice to see something different.
Overall Thoughts
Japan Airlines is considered a high quality airline in the oneworld alliance. In fact, it is one of just ten airlines in the world to be rated as a five star airline by Skytrax.
New uniforms are always welcome by passengers. I love seeing new fashion on board and this year we should see new uniforms for Ireland’s Aer Lingus and the United Kingdom’s British Airways.
