Brussels Airlines is ramping up its service to North America with new flights to Montréal, Québec. and more flights to Washington, D.C. That’s the good news. However, there is some bad news. Toronto service will be discontinued in January 2020.

Coming to Quebec

Today, Brussels Airlines announced it will launch seasonal flights to Montréal with Airbus A330-300 aircraft in March 2020. And Washington, DC, will become a year-round destination starting on Feb. 20, 2020. Currently, it is only a summer destination.

The Belgian airline will fly from Brussels International Airport to Montréal–Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport five days a week, beginning March 29, 2020. Flights depart from Brussels in the morning and arrive in Montréal in the early afternoon. Return flights to Brussels arrive in the morning. In other words, that will make it a breeze for travelers connection to ongoing flights.

“Montréal is a real added value for the Brussels Airlines network,” says Frederic Dechamps, Senior Director Sales Belgium – Brussels Airlines, Lufthansa Group. “It is a strong market out of Belgium, with over 75,000 potential travelers a year.”

Tourism Growing

Montréal is a huge tourism destination, and you should check it out if you haven’t been there. Tourism is one of the primary wealth-generating industries for Québec Province. Certainly, it’s easy to see why. There’s so much to see and dol

The tourism trade understands the city’s appeal for both leisure and business travelers.  In 2019, Tourisme Montréal ramped up marketing to increase the city’s visibility and boost the convention market.

Understandably, Montréal has a thriving and growing international flight hub. In fact, Aéroports de Montréal announced the city’s 150th direct flight in October. And, in December 2018, Montréal–Trudeau Airport set a new, record-breaking milestone. It welcomed 19 million passengers in a single year.

DC Service Grows

Added capacity in the winter season (October through March) allows the airline to increase service to Washington Dulles Airport. As a year-round destination, the airline can now meet the high demand for flights between Washington and Brussels Airlines’ African destinations. In the summer, service will be offered daily. During the winter, flights are scheduled four days per week.

Brussels Airlines new schedule to North America will be:

  • Montréal – 5 flights a week during the summer
  • New York – Daily service year-round
  • Washington, D.C. – Daily flights during the summer/4 flights per week in the winter

Toronto Service to End

As mentioned, Brussels Airlines is ceasing operations to Toronto, effective Jan. 7, 2020. Passengers booked on Brussels-Toronto flights after that date will be offered alternative travel options.
