Background:

My friends and I needed a car to drive around Colorado with! Problem is, we’re 18, and most car rentals won’t rent to us. I stumbled upon Maven which is sponsored by GM and decided to work with them!

No application fees!

There’s no application fees or monthly membership¬†fees like Zipcar or other car share programs. Apply with a short application online (Name, Driver’s License), and you will be approved in about 2 days and good to go! This made it easy for me, as for Zipcar you would have to wait until the “Zipcard” is delivered to you, which I didn’t have time to wait for in the mail. On Maven, there’s no card needed, just your phone!

How does it work?

You download the app, get approved and you can currently rent in 13 cities across the US! Then, there’s a map of Maven car locations in each city and you can put in your dates to reserve a car.

Your phone is your key! Opens the car, locks the car and it can sound the horn ūüôā

We reserved our car 3 days in advance and chose a Chevy Malibu. It cost $100 a day which may seem a bit steep, but for 18 year olds it wasn’t bad, considering there were only 2 rental car companies willing to rent with us at Denver Airport for the same price (EZ, Fox) and they have very poor reviews and other interesting fine print details which I¬†highlighted in my other post!

What other cars do they have?

Maven has GM vehicles, and in Denver they had Cadillac’s and other Chevy cars. Prices range depending on the car type. A Chevy Tahoe in Denver was $14/hr and $140/day, while a Cruze was $8/hr and $80/day. They even have electric cars too!

What’s included?

The great thing about carshares like Zipcar and Maven is that GAS is included! Also, there’s a gas card on the visor when you need to put gas!

A major plus is that wifi is included! It worked for most of my trip, except for a small dead spot on the I-25 near Castle Rock. In addition there’s Sirius XM Satellite Radio.

You get 180 miles per day, and can rent for as short as 30 minutes or up to 4 days.

Insurance?

There’s insurance included, but with a $750 deductible.

My Car!

It was a nice new Chevy Malibu with leather seats and a navigation! Score! Lot’s of USB ports for charging phones too!

The Verdict:

It was a simple, easy process with a nice car! I would use Maven again if I needed a car in the future!

If you want to try Maven for yourself, you can use my referral code TYLER0053 if you would like and get at least $15 your first trip! Here’s the link to their website.
