Royal Air Maroc is to be the first full new oneworld alliance member since SriLankan Airlines joined in May 2014. When the news was originally announced, the join date was set to be “sometime in 2020” and happily this has proven to be true.
It’s a little bit swings and roundabouts for the alliance, as they are losing South America’s LATAM in October. That means a gain in Africa and a loss in South America. How it all pans out remains to be seen.
Join Date For Royal Air Maroc
According to the oneworld alliance press release, the join date for Royal Air Maroc will be 1 April 2020. This is when all member benefits will apply for frequent flyers across the alliance.
Where Do Royal Air Maroc Fly?
Royal Air Maroc or RAM for short, fly to a host of destinations in Africa, Europe and even the USA and South America. The route map below from their web site shows this.

In addition, the Casablanca based carrier has a domestic network within Morocco, as you would expect. This adds a few more destinations to the map.

While points earning rates have yet to be released by the individual airlines, you can be sure that it will likely be similar to what you get from other alliance airlines at the moment.
Overall Thoughts
It is great to see another airline joining the oneworld alliance. Now that we have a join date for Royal Air Maroc, we can start planning our travel including that airline.
Alliances are very hard and fast around join dates for new members. When Royal Jordanian announced they were joining in 2007, I happily booked flights for 28 March and 2 April. The date they selected was 1 April, so my 28 March flight did not count, while my 2 April one did.
