I was excited to stay at the the Renaissance Zurich Tower hotel, which opened in 2011. It is located in Zurich’s Mobimo Tower, in the up and coming West End that used to be an industrial area. The top 9 floors of the building are comprised of 53 luxury condos, and the lower 15 floors are the hotel.
From Zurich Airport, there was no hotel shuttle service. I hopped in a cab which turned out to be 55 CHF, but I could have taken the train to Hardbruecke station and walked for a few minutes. Checking in to the hotel was quick and efficient. Of the 252 rooms, 48 are suites so I didn’t expect to get one of those. A nice surprise though, was that I had paid for a Deluxe Guest Room but because of my Marriott Platinum status I was upgraded to a Club Room.
The room was laid out well, and the bed was extremely comfortable. A featherbed had been placed on top of a pillowtop mattress, and the sheets/pillowcases were so soft. There were lots of different types of pillows too, ie. feather, synthetic, full, flat, soft, etc.
The flat screen TV was placed just right, so I could work on the desk without it getting in my way, and I could have watched TV from the bed as well.
There was no hunting around on the floor amongst the dust bunnies for an outlet. One of the best parts of the room was the charging station that was conveniently located right on the desk. Perfect location.
The furnishings were tasteful, by Cabone Interior Design from Wolfhalden. The room also had floor to ceiling windows that were soundproof. In fact, I didn’t hear any noise in the room at all. No elevator noise, talking from the next room over, slamming doors. Just quiet.
Surprisingly enough, I found an ice bucket and teapot, but there was no coffee machine. The only option was instant coffee.
I liked the refrigerator that came with two bottles of water.
The bathroom was clean and had a tub.
The amenities were from Bulgari’s Vert line, which as I’ve mentioned before is a bit stronger smelling than their Blanc line.
I had been looking forward to trying the hotel restaurant Equinox, which was supposed to be excellent. The Australian executive Chef Mark Thommen prides himself on fresh seasonal menus. Unfortunately, business didn’t allow me to eat there this time, but I did have time to take the elevator up to the 15th floor to the Club Lounge. The views were great and there was a large selection of food to nibble on.
The only real minus for this hotel is the location. It was not easy to get to. But the staff was friendly, the food was good, and the room was great. I would stay here again.
