HIGHLIGHTS: Four Points by Sheraton Bakersfield
The quality of the room’s décor is the highlight from this stay. Otherwise, there were plenty of wide-ranging issues, from the marijuana smell in the hotel hallways, deficient best rate guarantee policy, poor internet connectivity and speed, and downed machines at breakfast limiting us to spartan options. It was disappointing and I would not stay here again, not even for cheap 3,000-4,000 points or <$100. It is just not worth it.
LOBBY & CHECK-IN
This homey lobby has a small market nook. Check in was efficient, although their property is very large and wide, rather than tall. It’s what happens when you have plenty of space. On the way to our room, we smelled a strong odor of marijuana – I understand it’s medically necessary and will be legal in states soon, but keep that outside and do not assault others with the smell.
The room décor was very modern looking and colorful, perhaps recently remodeled. It comes with a refrigerator and microwave, useful for longer stays. However, the internet was shoddy, and thankfully we did not stay here for too long.
HOTEL SPACE / AMBIANCE
We did not see too many people as we arrived late and left early. The demographics skewed older and white based on the people we saw at breakfast.
FOOD & DRINK
Breakfast clearly says All American (2 eggs, ham, bacon or sausage, breakfast potatoes and toast), French Toast, Buttermilk Pancakes or Old Fashion (sic) Oatmeal. However, their credit card or payment machine was down, and thus we were limited to a boring buffet. No items made to order, no apologies given. Disappointing.
As we walked all day we did not make use of the Four Points by Sheraton Bakersfield fitness facilities.
In addition to the afore-mentioned issues, our best rate guarantee was not honored even though we found a cheaper rate on Orbitz. Not only was it not matched, we were not given the promotional 2,000 starpoints or 20% off our rate, as when Starwood checked the rate was in fact higher. That is just lazy on their account, and they refused to do anything about it other than provide me a manager’s card to reach out to.
All in all, the Four Points by Sheraton Bakersfield has nice ambiance and room furnishings, but has a litany of issues that need to be fixed. Perhaps we will come back when they are better!
