HIGHLIGHTS: The Cromwell Hotel & Casino, Las Vegas

Wow, where to begin. I was so, so excited to score a two night comp here, combo-ed with my Total Rewards Diamond status to automatically comp resort fees, because I had never seen availability in comps here before. But it was such a letdown. From the smallness of the casino and room, to other affiliated room issues, it was a poor overall experience. I had a nice long sit down with the front desk manager who did offer a $50 food comp which I may use next time, but regardless I’ll stay elsewhere.

LOBBY & CHECK-IN

Having never stayed here before I wasn’t sure where to go. But, their check in is all the way in the back of the casino area, away from Las Vegas Boulevard. Dark and dingy first comes to mind, with vaulted ceilings, lights on two stations for desk agents. No upgrades available, but they did offer water, and walked us partially through a small hallway directing me to the elevators. Appreciate the personal touch, which they did for others we saw as well. We received a $10 F&B credit at check-in, which was nice.

Room

This was tiny. Two queen beds, and a small makeup desk. Not large enough to fit my computer without jutting over the side. Their bathroom was pretty cool, but the light was defective and flickering rapidly, so using it only by shower light was annoying. Internet in this Total Rewards property is limited to two devices, another bummer (especially compared to the generosity and simplicity of the Cosmopolitan).

The bed was the most problematic. As there is no (real) desk I sat on the bed to do work, but as I sat the bed kept squeaking forward, and I would have to periodically get out and push it back against the wall. They sent an engineer up and he mentioned some garbage about how because the room has hardwood rather than carpet floors the bed is not secured properly. Believe me I laid it all out for the manager at checkout in a long, sit-down discussion.

HOTEL SPACE / AMBIANCE

it had a more hip, lively vibe, especially with its nightclub Drais on the roof.

FOOD & DRINK

They have Giada on the second floor, a more upscale eatery, but we spent the $10 on a burrito bowl from the grab and go location on the ground floor. It was pretty decent in both taste and value. We did spent most of these days eating out at Hexx with groupon deals, and Mon Ami Gabi due to a gift card discount I found.

The Hexx burger is one of my absolute favorites. They also charge a 4+% ridiculous concession fee, but I’ll just dock that from gratuity.

Mon Ami Gabi is part of the same chain as Joe’s Stone Crab so we ate here a plenty.

FITNESS

Their gym is located directly behind the check-in desk, a long row of cardio machines and some free weights. Adequate for the size of the hotel, but nothing special. Quite dark as well.

MISCELLANEOUS

So as I mentioned, at checkout I spoke with the manager about my issues and did not hold back. She offered me her apologies (also for being short staffed, she said) and a $50 F&B credit to the restaurants on property. I messaged her after my trip to let her know I would be using it next time, and I hope they honor that commitment. It was a poor stay but I am glad I checked it off my Vegas list of hotels. Its mid-Strip location isn’t the most ideal for gambling, since the nearby properties did not have the machines I need.

This trip we did very well. Not as well as back in August (where we cleared over $3,300) but still very well at over $1,800, through the same batch of Advantage Play machines. We also found three new ones this time, which were very helpful.

In 2018, we cleared over $10,000 on slot winnings, while simultaneously getting a bevy of comped rooms and food. Christmas Eve and the day before were the most lucrative, with high concentration of foot traffic in the Cosmo & Aria. Here’s to 2019!
