For those of us who follow the cruise industry, the Costa Concordia accident and subsequent coverage have been interesting to watch. Tragic for those directly impacted, for sure. For a geek like me, the engineering behind ships is extremely interesting, and so is the engineering behind salvaging the Costa Concordia.
Ship salvagers have been making preparations for the salvage operation off Giglio, Italy for months. Finally, the ship is upright. The ship will not be towed away from the accident site until 2014, but she is now upright. Take a look at this time-lapse video from YouTube.
