An alternative title for this review would be, “What’s it like staying in a hotel room with no window?”. Since I was on a budget, I chose a windowless room in the Comfort Hotel Xpress Stockholm Central.
This hotel is extremely well located, being right at Stockholm Central Station where the Arlanda Express train from the airport terminates. You literally go up a lift to the street and the entrance to the hotel is right there. Perfect when you have a lot of luggage.
Welcome to Barception
There are two ways to check in to your room. You can go to the automatic kiosk table which is located several steps inside the entrance or you can go to Barception.
Barception is a combination of a bar and reception. Therefore you can check-in there and also get drinks if you wish. It makes a lot of sense to combine the two really.
Room 110 at the Comfort Hotel Xpress
Since I have never stayed in a room with no window before, I was interested to see what it was like. Walking in, you immediately see the bed and the wall with no window.
Instead there is a big light up feature which certainly adds to the light in the room. The other rooms also have this, but they also have windows. Space is utilised quite well, with a bin and luggage shelf plus another shelf or desk that folds down from the wall.
There is also a mirror opposite the bathroom and another basic seat. It really is everything you need if you’re planning just to rest your head for the night.
What is great about the room is the bed comfort. I slept fantastically well as the bed is really excellent. Considering the room cost me around €80 per night, I was quite impressed – after all, sleep quality is the most important thing.
In addition to the usual toilet and basin, the bathroom had a shower that has several different settings. Water pressure was perfectly fine and small and large towels are provided.
Luckily the bathroom seems to be quite spacious when compared to the room, but you kind of need space to move about and what not. No complaints at all.
Towels and linens are changed every fourth day in order to be environmentally friendly which I liked. There is also a little blue book in the room which goes through a lot of environmental elements for the hotel and life in general.
On the notice board in the room are all the other things about the hotel room. A nice feature is the fact that you can check out of the rooms on Sunday at 18:00 without any extra charge. Great if you have a big Saturday night!
For sheer convenience I would stay at the Comfort Hotel Xpress Stockholm Central again. You can’t beat the location above the Arlanda Express to the airport.
Throughout the hotel on landings are really nice couches with coffee tables. This was perfect for a post night debrief at 4am that my friends and I did and they are away from the rooms so the noise does not disturb. The decor was quite trendy and fresh looking in the hotel so it certainly does not come across as cheap.
