TL;DR

Cathay Pacific’s The Pier First Class Lounge is one of my all time favorite lounges. The massages, the food, the nap rooms, and the finishes are truly amazing. I would hands down recommend this lounge over any other in HKG, even over CX’s amazing The Wing First Class lounge (because of the massages).

The Good: basically everything.

The Bad: Honestly, nothing major to point out.

The Noteworthy: Nap rooms have an amazing view of the runway, if you can try to snag one.

Arrival at HKG

I got back from by three days in Hong Kong and proceeded to the Cathay Pacific check-in counters. As a oneWorld Emerald, I had access to their First Class check-in. In a matter of minutes, I had my boarding pass and was being escorted to the security queue. At HKG, there is no priority queue, so I had to line up with everyone else. The line moved very quickly, and in about another 15 minutes I was inside the terminal.

I proceeded to walk to Cathay’s First Class lounge The Pier. I was informed my flight would leave closest to that lounge.

The Lounge:

The lounge is extremely elegant, it is a modernist Chinese design and feels very spacious. After the entrance, there is a long hallways that divides the lounge between the main seating area and the dining area. Between the two main areas is the spa, bathrooms and nap rooms.

The nap rooms are excellent, private (though do not have a closed door) and with a comfortable day bed. Each room comes with a large window pane with runway views. I stayed there for about one hour to sleep.

After that, I went to the dining area to have dinner. The menu was extensive, and varied. I ordered the soup of the day (lentil soup), the Dan Dan Mian noodles, and the burger. Yep, I was very hungry. The food was stellar.

For dessert, I ordered the créme brulée, which was delectable.

The Bathrooms:

The bathrooms seemed to belong to Emirates, given all the gilded fixtures and ornate details. Toiletries were designed by Aesop, the same company that provides Qantas’’ First Class toiletries.

There are 4 shower rooms (if I remember correctly). These have marble countertops, and massaging shower heads. There were a series of amenities inside each shower, from dental kits to make up removers.

Other Lounge Fixtures:

The lounge has a business center, a series of newspapers and a spa. The Spa is very small, and offers either a back massage or foot massage. Since I am very ticklish, I decided to get the back massage. It lasts 15 minutes, and it was wonderful.

Main Lounge:

The main lounge seating area is ample and quiet. There is also a marble top bar, with top shelf liquors and drinks. There is also a small area with pastries and non-alcoholic drinks.

I ordered some Hong Kong milk tea, and it was alright. I don’t know why, but my fascination with milk tea (always drank with boba) has made me very picky about milk tea in general. In my experience, I have been very surprised that Houston-based milk tea places have been better than Hong Kong and Japan. Who knew?

Landing Thoughts:

The Pier First Class lounge is one of my, if not the absolute, favorite lounges. It offers a bit of everything one needs to relax during a layover, and great food. I would recommend this louneg in a heartbeat!
