Connect and Follow for Free Points
Per a Marriott email, they want to connect with you, just in time for Black Friday. Hotels typically have large % discounts around this timeframe for future bookings, in order to compete and break into the traditional Black Friday news of retailers and their steep discounts.
Earn 1,500 points (and more, if you follow them back) by December 7th, 2016. Terms from their link are below.
Earn up to 1,500 points by December 7th, 2016.
It’s easy as 1, 2, 3
1. Not a Marriott Rewards member? Sign-up to get started.
2. Then, Connect your Facebook, Instagram and Twitter profiles to your Marriott Rewards® account for 500 points each (a total of 1,500 points)
3. Don’t stop there! Get 30 days of member deals here.
Please note – after connecting with Marriott Rewards, it will ask you to follow them on their social media – for 50 or so points per follow! It’s easy, fast, and free to do.
I finished linking in just a few minutes, and was able to see my points post within the next hour. The 1,600 points I earned converts to just over 500 Starpoints, worth ~$11. It’s not a tremendous amount, but well worth the time invested.
While their 30 days of member deals sounds intriguing, a cursory look at their page does not have anything new as of yet. It most likely will be updated closer to the holiday time, and I am looking forward to seeing those deals!
Ultimately because I purchase most hotels with points, I may not take advantage of their percentage discount sales on cash rates. However, should the valuation of points decline for a redemption, since the cash rate will be lower, it may make sense to pay the “retail” dollar cost. Further research will need to be done – especially if you have upcoming travel plans for the holiday, or afterwards! Hopefully this Black Friday will be as good or better for travellers, since hospitality is our communal passion. Dirt cheap flights, anyone?
