Aeroplan conversion bonus promotion is back, and offers members a great way to convert hotel points into Aeroplan miles with 30% bonus miles. The promotion runs until August 20th, 2018 and members can transfer as many points/times as needed.

The total miles converted must be equal to or greater than 5000 in order to be eligible for the 30% bonus. All hotel loyalty points converted between July 23, 2018 and August 20, 2018 will be combined and a 30% bonus will be credited to the account within 4-6 weeks.

This time around, there are a few major updates in the hotel transfer partners – SPG/Marriott are out and IHG is in. Although you can continue to convert SPG and Marriott points, they will not be eligible for the 30% bonus (much like American Express Membership Rewards points). IHG is the new hotel transfer partner in this promotion.

The T&C of the Aeroplan promotion includes an interesting caveat, as follows;

Please note that some hotel loyalty programs have hotel and flight redemption packages where Aeroplan Miles are issued. It is at the discretion of each Hotel Program if these miles are deemed a conversion of points to miles or simply a bonus earned for the redemption.

I contacted Marriott to seek clarification and they confirmed that nothing had changed at their end and they will continue to code the transfer of ‘air package’ as before. So theoretically, all Marriott Hotel+Air Packages redeemed for Aeroplan miles should still be eligible for the 30% bonus. *I have not tested this myself, just a theory*. Anyone planning to do so, must contact Marriott and confirm accordingly.

The best way to leverage the Aeroplan conversion bonus promotion was through the Marriott Hotel+Air package.

Convert 90K SPG to 270K Marriott points (1:3), just enough to purchase 7 Nights + 120K miles (Aeroplan in this case) package. The 120K Aeroplan would earn a 30% bonus and yield 156K Aeroplan miles in total. Essentially, converting 90K SPG would fetch 156K Aeroplan miles and 7-nights Marriott certificate for Category 1-5.

**July 24th, 2018 UPDATE: Mariott has a big bold statement ruling out AP bonus on the Hotel+Air packages. I stand corrected on the above. Marriott Hotel+Air packages will not qualify for the bonus. **
