I recently got the SPG Amex Credit Card! Woo-hoo! It only advertised the 2x Starpoints per dollar at SPG and Marriott properties, 5 night & 2 stay credits towards SPG elite status, no foreign transaction and free premium in room internet at SPG properties.

What it doesn’t say is that you get Starwood Preferred Guest Plus.

Starwood Preferred Guest Plus?

Yup! All AMEX Starwood Card holders automatically get this, and its in between basic (Preferred) guest and Gold.

Starwood Preferred Plus

What’s the big deal?!

It comes with an “enhanced room at check-in” and 4pm late checkout at SPG properties! The enhanced room means like a higher floor, corner room, view, etc. But the thing that is most attractive to me is the 4pm late checkout 🙂 Not too bad!

Anything else?

Since the merger with Marriott, connect your SPG account and you will have……Marriott Silver! Wooo! Okay, I know it’s the lowest Marriott Elite Tier, but for those of us that have very low elite levels, some elite is better than none!

Marriott Silver gets you:

  • Elite Reservation Line/Exclusive Guest Services Line
  • Ultimate Reservation Guarantee
  • Priority Late Checkout
  • 20% Bonus on Marriott Rewards Points
  • 10% Gift Shop Discount
  • 10% Weekend Discount at Courtyard and SpringHill

And, if you know you’re going to have 6 stays in 3 months (or feel like mattress running), with the Silver Elite Status, you can enroll in the Marriott Status Challenges and go from Silver to Gold (which would give you SPG Gold as well).

And of course, thanks to Daniel from TravelUpdate (The Hotelion) for reminding me, you can earn SPG Gold Status after spending $30,000 or more in a calendar year.

Want to Apply?

If you want to apply for the AMEX Starwood Preferred Guest Card, you can do so with my referral link here. I’d greatly appreciate your support! You can earn 25,000 Starpoints (Or 75,000 Marriott Rewards’ points) after you use the card to make $3,000 in purchases within the first 3 months of Card Membership. And the annual fee of $95 is waived for the first year!

Happy travels,
