One of my favorite things about flying international first class (well, aside from the lounge, the seat, the food, the wine, and the extra attention) is the amenity kit. The first class kits usually have decent toiletries and things like ear plugs, eye masks, and a nice comb for my hair. Oh…wait. Nevermind. OK, they usually have nice stuff. Here are the contents of the amenity kit from my recent first class flight aboard Lufthansa.
In my opinion, one of the best things about a nice amenity kit is what you can use it for after your flight. I have converted my amenity kit from my most recent flight into a carrier of chargers and cables for my plethora of electronic devices. See the side by side below.
I found these particular amenity kit cases to be especially useful, and they fit pretty easily into my briefcase, backpack, or carry on bag. Do you reuse your amenity kits? What are some other good uses for them?
I haven’t had the experience of flying international first class. However, I have a pair of wireless headphones that came in a nice zippered case but never leave home, so the case has been repurposed to carry cords & chargers when I travel. Before that I used the smallest size packing cubes from eBags for that, plus separating clean from worn socks. They don’t seem to have that size of packing cubes any more, though…
Sorry for the lapse re italy trip. We will be flying on lufthansa.
I have used the kits for Years to carry chargers and extra cell phones when I go overseas. There is always someone who doesn’t think ahead and needs a cell phone, I have another that I carry my toiletry’s in. I have found this is a good way to keep the cords together. I do keep my extra sim cards in an Altoids can.
I re-use an old Lufthansa case as an easy way to keep all the things I might need while in my seat — Ipod, noise-cancelling earbuds (w/spare battery), pen, ibuprofen, cough drops, beverage coupons, etc. It’s handy to have everything in one easy-to-grab case that I can just shove into the seatback.
I keep another one as my “single-nighter toiletry kit.” It’s great for the last-minute trips that are just a night or two, and there’s enough room to keep my razor, small hair brush, small toothbrush, etc.
Delta had some small mesh bags I use for medicines- aspirin and cold remedies. I use old eye shades by sewing them around and leaving a 2″ gap, makes a great pouch for earphones. My cable bag is an old delta kitbag.
i collect them and donate to oldiers over ses…feel free to participate
Is there a website or somewhere that I can learn more about this cause?
A tablet sleeve? That’s awesome!
Next month I’m looking forward to getting the new AA Amenity kit as it designed to be an tablet sleeve when your done with the kit. Looks like AA saw the use of their kits for electronic holders too.
MJ. You are a so smart. I am going to start to use mine for a case for chargers as well.
Awesome! đŸ™‚
Traveling to Italy in business class. What kind of amenities will we receive?
Depends on the airline. Who are you flying?
