I happen to be in San Francisco for business and my long overdue inaugural trip to this amazing city when I read Lucky‘s post You Won’t Believe This Racist Chinatown Tour Guide! and watched this shocking video.

This racist, expletive-filled speech (I lost count of the F-bombs) seemed to be the talk of San Fran on Friday, second to the Giants vs. KC World Series. This tour guide ended her last day of employment with what has quickly become a YouTube viral video, drawing attention of the community and pubic officials.

Reports indicate the tour company, City Sightseeing, has responded via its CEO, Christian Watts who released a statement in response:

Comments made by this former employee on her last day of employment are absolutely not a representation of how much we love and support Chinatown, and every other community in San Francisco. … [The company is adding additional training to ensure] each tour is up to our rigorous standard.

Is this really a training issue?  Or more of a quality control in hiring issue?

I’m actually staying on the edge of Chinatown at the Hilton San Francisco Financial District (great views!). My first impressions were positive as I ventured by one of seemingly hundreds of restaurants in the area for some take-out. Heck, the owner even bought me a beer while I was waiting for my meal and chatting with the friendly staff at Begoni Bistro, a Chinatown restaurant. Xie xie, Chinatown!
