Background:

This review is long overdue, but I stayed at the Renaissance Hong Kong Harbour View almost a year ago. I had a Category 5 Certificate to use from my Marriott Bonvoy card and it was a good use as rates were over $300 USD a night. Now, the Renaissance has been increased to a Category 6 under the Bonvoy program.

Check In:

My Cathay Pacific flight from LA brought us in really early in the morning, so I wasn’t really expecting the hotel to let us to check in at 9am. Regular check-in was at 2pm but the agent said that they could get my room ready by noon which was nice. So I headed to explore the city a bit.

My first impression was that the lobby was tastefully done and looked quite luxurious.

Heading to the Room:

The elevators are really fast here that my ears popped! We were quickly whisked away to the 25th floor.

The room was small, but actually very well designed. The blackout lining was automatic and did an amazing job in keeping the sunlight out of the room. A hot water maker was provided, and two bottles of water were replenished every night.

The queen bed was a bit firm and my rollaway bed could have been a bit more comfortable. The furnishings were nice, and it was funny that the closet door also serves as a door to separate the hallway and bathroom from the bedroom so someone could get ready or utilize the closet as an office without bothering anyone sleeping. Great design.

Bathroom:

The marble bathroom was quite roomy for a city hotel and they gave a lot of toiletries. I noticed that in the US, normally they just give shampoo, lotion and conditioner, but a Renaissance abroad gives a dental kit, shower cap, buffing board, bath minerals, vanity kit, sewing kit, and more. Seems funny because it’s all part of the same chain.

Location:

The hotel is located in Wan Chai and it is only a short walk to the MTR station. Also many parts of Hong Kong are within walking distance. A good base to explore the city.

The hotel is connected to the convention center, and once the center is complete I think the hotel will be even nicer as there is some debris and construction works happening nearby and outside the hotel.

Service:

Service was decent, but a bit spotty at the front desk. Our bags were supposed to be delivered to our room but weren’t, and I had to call up again for the rollaway. Also one of the front desk agents was trying to sell me an upgrade but kept changing the price….

Housekeeping was great and they were quick to deliver ice buckets.

Amenities:

There is a outdoor pool, which surprised me since it’s a city hotel. Additionally, the fitness center was quite large and roomy.

The Verdict:

Overall, I had a solid stay at the Renaissance Hong Kong Harbour View. The hotel was a nice peaceful retreat from the hustle and bustle of the city, while in a very central location.

Happy travels,

Ty
