Recently, I have been spending some time in Seattle for work. So far, the only hotel I’ve experienced an a recurring basis is Kimpton’s Hotel Monaco, which happens to be perfectly located for my business needs. Located at 1101 4th Avenue, the Monaco Seattle really is convenient to everything with easy access to I-5 as well as University Street Station. With several stays in the last few months, and more on the way, a review of the Hotel Monaco Seattle seemed in order.

Check-in

Without fail, I’ve always been greeted warmly at the Hotel Monaco Seattle, and this particular stay was no different. Traveling from the east coast, I tend to fly early, which means I’m arriving at the front desk around noon. So far, I’ve only waited once for a room, and then I had just enough time for a Target run before receiving a text that my room was ready.

Welcomed as a Spire Elite Inner Circle member, I was offered a choice of 600 IHG points or a $10 “Raid the Bar” credit. For me, 10 bucks is more valuable than 600 points, but YMMV. Fortunately, I also scored an upgrade to a Monte Carlo Suite for my 5-night stay!

The Room

The Monte Carlo Suite was large with a comfortable parlor featuring a large TV and work area.

Work Area

The work area was comfortable enough, with plenty of power outlets and a single-serve Keurig, though I opted for the Starbucks next door for my caffeination needs.

The king bed was large and comfortable. Each nightstand had built in power outlets, but I found they’d seen their better days. In other words, anything more than a gentle graze would unplug anything you’d plugged in. (Not a complaint, just an observation)

Like most hotels of a certain generation, the bathroom wasn’t “huge,” but there was plenty of space for a solo business traveler.

All in all, the room was large, comfortable, and perfect for a 5-night business trip. No complaints.

Around the Hotel

There are 25 less pounds of MJ to love on than there were this time last year, and I plan to keep it that way. As a result, a functional gym is a must. The Monaco’s gym was not large, but had well-maintained equipment that I made good use of during the week. Given that I never really got off “east coast time” during the week, I was usually in the gym by 4:45am and had my pick of equipment.

Wine-hour is a favorite feature of Kimpton Hotels and the Monaco Seattle hosts a great one each evening at 5pm. Later in the week, a guitarist plays the lobby which makes for a really nice vibe.

The adjacent restaurant, Outlier, features solid happy hour specials too. For the record, they also make a pretty tasty omelette for your breakfast needs.

Hotel Monaco Seattle Review Summary

The Hotel Monaco Seattle is a dependable Kimpton property in the heart of downtown Seattle. It’s literally close to everything. Convenient to highways and public transit and steps from several of Seattle’s wonderful restaurants. I’m planning to stay there again on my next business trip to Seattle.
