Qantas have switched their flights to London back to Singapore, after a flirtation with Dubai for several years. This means the current Qantas Singapore lounge is unfit for the number of people using it.

A two pronged solution has been devised by the Australian carrier. The main lounge is being expanded and is due to open in the middle of the year, while a new Qantas Singapore First Class lounge is to open by the end of the year.

Qantas Singapore First Class Lounge

There are very few first class lounges at Qantas. At international stations, they have a one lounge for all policy. This means everyone uses the excellent Qantas London Lounge for example, with little differentiation as to class of travel.

Proper – and very highly regarded – first class lounges are available in Sydney and Melbourne. When I gained admittance in Sydney, I was pretty blown away by the whole experience. It really is special!

A short video on the Qantas Singapore first class lounge is above. It shows some hints on the design, which is in the hands of David Caon in collaboration with Akin Atelier. I especially like the look of the dining room, as it looks quite warm and friendly.

Key materials like marble and oak which are in the current first class lounges are being used in Singapore also. There will be a twist to reflect the locality and that is no surprise!

Overall Thoughts

As an Australian, getting into one of those Qantas first class lounges was very high on my bucket list. I had read and heard so many good things about it and I was happy not to be disappointed.

Bringing the concept to Singapore, which is perhaps the busiest port outside of Australia in the Qantas network, makes a lot of sense. Hopefully I’ll get to see it sometime myself.
