According to New York City’s tourism marketing agency, NYC tourism, and especially international arrivals, will be hit in 2017 by “changing attitudes about travel” to the United States.
NYC & Company says the city expects 300,000 fewer international arrivals than in 2016, according to the New York Times. And the finger points at Trump for the blame, as this reduction in tourism for the city is “in light of the recent travel ban and related rhetoric.”
Nevertheless, in typical New York fashion, NYC & Co. is not taking the projections sitting down.
It is addressing the issue head-on by targeting the key markets of the UK, Mexico, Germany, and Spain with the launch of its newest tourism marketing campaign: “New York City – Welcoming the World.”
“While projected declines among travelers are concerning, the irrepressible hospitality and welcoming nature of New York City gives us confidence that our destination will continue to appeal to visitors from around the world,” said NYC & Company president Fred Dixon.
“We will work tirelessly to do all we can to preserve our City’s tourism industry in the months ahead.”
The $3M marketing effort will do its best to keep NYC on the world stage as a city that values inclusion and welcomes all.
