Clearly, the competition between American and Delta is taking a turn. After opting out of an interline agreement with Delta, American may be restarting a route once served by US Airways, DCA to Atlanta. I say “may” because this news is from an airliners.net thread.

DCA – ATL is not a small market. Delta offers hourly service , and it is one that gets the benefit of almost always departing from the T concourse if you are originating from Atlanta….not a small deal as those of us who live in Atlanta and fly Delta can attest to. A lot of US Airways customers may remember when US served the market years before the merger with AA. Southwest also offers multiple flights a day between ATL and DCA.

I’m trying to confirm this news. If true, this could be one to watch.

UPDATE: I have confirmed that this new 5x daily service will be loaded for sale this weekend and begins January 5, 2016. The service will be operated by Republic with E175 aircraft.
