Stellar Service and Fantastic Amenities at the Lufthansa First Class Terminal in Frankfurt

Lufthansa First Class Series:

Part 1: I’m in Love with Lufthansa!
Part 2: Lufthansa First Class Terminal
Part 3: Lufthansa First Class Frankfurt to New York

Intro

Nothing ever turns out like you expect.  I always book a flight expecting so much more than I end up getting.  Still, I enjoy the flight, and I savor every minute, but I can’t help but imagine what that flight would have been like if everything turned out as I had hoped.  That was the narrative I lived with on every single flight until my Lufthansa First Class experience.

Background

I left my hotel roughly four hours before my flight to New York was scheduled to board.  The Element Frankfurt Airport Hotel is only ten or so minutes away from Frankfurt-Main Airport.  My taxi pulled up to the Lufthansa First Class Terminal around 12:45 PM.

Check-In, Security at Lufthansa First Class Terminal

I didn’t know what to expect.  I’ve become accustomed to subpar premium service, so I didn’t expect much.  As my taxi pulled up to the terminal, my personal assistant emerged from the terminal.  She opened the door, grabbed my bag, and welcomed me to the terminal.

Once inside in the terminal, my personal assistant greeted me by name and escorted me to the quiet security checkpoint.  I was the only one going through security which was good as I had SSSS.  This meant that I had to open my carry-on bags for explosives testing.  Additionally, I had to go through a metal detector, receive a patdown, and have my shoes checked for residue and anomalies.  Still, the entire process took under five minutes, and the whole security staff was extremely polite.

Once I made it through security, my personal assistant took my passport and boarding card.  The Lufthansa First Class Terminal crew holds on to both your passport and boarding card until your departure for security purposes.

Lufthansa First Class Terminal Overview

My personal assistant asked if this was my first time at the terminal.  It was, so she brought me through the terminal and told me that the Lufthansa First Class Terminal team would take care of everything.  She was super friendly and overly professional as was the entire staff at the terminal.

According to Lufthansa, the First Class Terminal is over 19,000 square feet.  In this 19,000 square foot terminal, there are multiple seating areas, a cigar lounge, a gigantic fully stocked bar, private nap rooms, showers, and workspaces.

There were multiple different seating areas with various types of chairs and sofas.  The main seating area runs parallel to the bar and the dining area.  Part of this seating area also centers around a huge curved LED TV.  The furniture goes well with the design and color scheme of the terminal.  Additionally, all of the furniture was well kept, near power outlets, and very comfortable.

I opted to sit in one of the unbelievably comfortable Panasonic sleeping chairs near a row of floor to ceiling windows for the majority of my visit.

I easily could have taken a very long nap if I had a longer layover.  The chairs recline and even rock back and forth.  Additionally, the chairs play relaxing new age music through speakers mounted in the headrest.  Each sleeper chair is located adjacent to a side-table and USB and AC power outlets.

Lufthansa First Class Terminal Cigar Lounge

In addition to open-air seating located throughout the terminal, there’s an enclosed cigar lounge.  I believe at one time; there were complimentary cigars in the lounge. However, there weren’t any during my visit.  This is likely because of the duty-free shop adjacent to the terminal entrance which sells cigars.

The cigar lounge, surprisingly, didn’t wreak of cigar and cigarette smoke.  There was an obvious odor, but I could have easily spent my time in the cigar lounge.  Only two passengers visited the cigar lounge during my time at the terminal.

Each seat in the cigar lounge features a book of matches and ashtray.  The seating is identical to the lounge seating found outside of the cigar lounge.  There’s also a massive self-serve bar within the cigar lounge.  The bar found just within the cigar lounge easily rivals the selection found at US airline first class lounges.

As I said, I’m not a smoker so all I did was take some pictures of the cigar lounge and that was it.  Another room I didn’t use but still took pictures of was one of the nap rooms.

Lufthansa First Class Terminal Nap Rooms

The nap rooms are located just down the main hallway just before the restrooms.  There are just two nap rooms in the entire lounge.  Both remained unoccupied for the entirety of my visit.  Each nap room features a relatively large day-bed, coat hangers, a mirror, power outlets, bottled water, and a nap kit.  The nap rooms are fantastic. However, space is limited with just two nap rooms in the entire terminal.

Further down the hallway are public restrooms.  Just before the restrooms is a corridor that leads to the shower suites.

Lufthansa First Class Terminal Shower Suites

There are four or so shower suites.  Each suite, except for one, are identical.  Each shower suite features a vanity with sink, shower, toilet, premium amenities, and a robe.  One of the suites features both a shower and full-sized bathtub.  I went into a shower suite to take some pictures, but I didn’t actually take a shower.  These shower suites are easily the largest and most elaborate I’ve encountered in my travels.

After my self-guided tour of the terminal, I decided to sit down for lunch.  The dining area that features a la carte dining options is located adjacent to bar near the center of the terminal.

Lufthansa First Class Terminal Dining

The best part of the lounge is the fantastic buffet and a la carte dining area.  I decided to indulge and order something off the a la carte menu.  The menu features salad, appetizers, steak, local options, soup, and an Asian dish.  Additionally, drinks can be ordered from the dining area.

I ordered the filet mignon and salad.  Before my steak arrived, I explored the buffet.  The buffet as fairly extensive and features pasta, salads, dips and spreads, stir fry, desserts, and meats and cheeses.  I grabbed a plate of meats and cheeses and ordered a glass of wine from Napa Valley.

The meats and cheeses were unbelievable.  Everything tasted fresh and premium.  The red wine I selected also went well with my meal.  Soon after I finished my meat and cheese plate, my steak was served.

My steak was phenomenal and was easily one of the best steaks I’ve ever had.  The salad was also very fresh and featured a balsamic dressing.  The wine paired very well with my steak.  To finish my meal, I had a piece of carrot cake which was also delightful.

As I mentioned above, I spent most of my time relaxing in a nap-chair.  Multiple attendants checked up on my during my visit eager to serve me.  I ordered a German beer during my visit as well as champagne.

Towards the end of my visit, I began to upload photos from my visit in one of the workspaces.  There I had a cappuccino and bottle of Evian water delivered to my workspace.

I also took a few pictures of the bar area.  The bar is fully stocked and features an extensive selection of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.  The terminal has become famous for the fantastic selection of whiskey.  The bar also boasts over ten different brands of water, a massive wine list, fresh juices, and even kombucha.

One thing I can’t show using pictures is that fantastic service I received during my visit.  From the moment I entered the lounge, to the second I stepped onto the aircraft, I received extraordinary service.  I’ve honestly never encountered such a fantastic and dedicated group of people.  They made my experience what it was.

As I left the terminal for my flight, my personal assistant escorted me down to the first floor of the terminal.  There a group of Lufthansa employees waited to inform me about my flight.  A driver and Mercedes-Benz also waited outside.  My driver was extremely courteous and professional.  He even offered to take a picture of me in front of the car and the aircraft.

Luckily, the fantastic service I received didn’t stop on the ground.  Once my driver handed me off to the cabin crew, the cabin crew served me a glass of champagne and macadamia nuts.  The entire cabin crew introduced themselves to me, and one flight attendant even offered to take my picture in my seat.  I honestly don’t know how any airline could top the service I received at the Lufthansa First Class Terminal.

Overall

I doubt another airline can rival the ground experience Lufthansa offers to first class customers.  The entire Lufthansa First Class team is dedicated to each passenger and ensures that each guest has a fantastic pre-flight experience.  In additional to the excellent service, the amenities are also great.  I would have never imagined an airline lounge could boast such an impressive dining experience.  The fully stocked bar, bathtub, nap rooms, comfortable daybeds, and luxury car transfers push the Lufthansa First Class Terminal experience over the top.  This was by far the best pre-flight experience I’ve ever had.
