Background/Location:

I needed to find a place to stay for my European Summer Trip in Vienna, and I stumbled upon the Imperial Riding School Renaissance. Rates were amazing, as it was 113 EUR, and there was an offer in which paying with Visa would give breakfast for 2! I was debating choosing the Le Meridien across the Opera House but it was 230 EUR, so i decided to save the money and be a bit further from the city center. The Imperial Riding School is rated 4.0/5.0 on TripAdvisor, so I thought it should be a solid hotel as well!

While the hotel is not in the Inner Ring, it’s a short tram ride, Uber or even walk to the main city. I found the location just fine, in a nice residential area. It’s close to the Belvedere Palace, and about a 20 minute walk to the Vienna State Opera.

I practically just took Uber everywhere, as Uber is really cheap in Vienna! Last week I wrote about how Ubering in Vienna and Prague is really cheap!

QUICK SUMMARY: Overall, the Imperial Riding School Renaissance has solid rooms in a convenient location, while not in Vienna’s Inner Ring. For 113 EUR a night with breakfast, I think it was a really good deal!

Arrival + The Room:

The hotel was cool as it was a former military riding school in the 19th century! Check-in was quick but a bit confusing because at first we were given a room with just 2 Twin Beds, so there was no way 3 could fit? We had to go back to the front desk then they immediately sent a rollaway.

The hallways seemed quite outdated, but thankfully the room did not feel this way! It was nice and refreshed, with the exception of the old phone. You could tell it was newly renovated! We slept fine, but the beds did seem a bit worn out. And the rollaway wasn’t the most comfortable sadly. Other than that, it was pretty clean and comfortable with good sheets and pillows.

It was kind of interesting the rooms lacked an iron + board and coffee maker, you need to request them if you want them.

There was an issue with the bathroom. The tub/shower only had a glass panel instead of a curtain and it was a really bad one at that. The water would literally flood the bathroom even if you tried to shower in a corner super close to the showerhead. This has also caused mildew along the bathtub and the wood door to rot from water damage! They really should just install a shower curtain!

Also there’s this step from the bathroom which was scary because if you forgot there was a step you would trip! They should either level it out a bit better or put some sort of small ramp thing. I read some other reviews complaining on this step too.

Breakfast:

Overall, the breakfast was decent, but not really worth the full list price of $28. It contained your average spread, and had a omelet station. The first day the omelet chef was really rude, so we let the restaurant manager know and she was very understanding and apologetic and we didn’t see him the rest of our stay.

Amenities + Service:

The service overall (with the exception of the one chef) was good! I appreciate how professional and responsive Gina the restaurant manager was. And, the check-in staff was also very friendly and helpful. I did find it weird that on the last day housekeeping kind of forgot to clean our room? The beds were messily made and trash wasn’t taken out? Confused…

The hotel has a health club which I sadly forgot to visit! It has a indoor pool, sauna and fitness center!

The Verdict:

The Imperial Riding School Renaissance definitely served its purpose as a base to explore Vienna, and for the price I paid I thought it was an excellent deal!
