Experience the Westin Baltimore Washington Airport (BWI)

As soon as you step into the Westin Baltimore, you can feel the cleanliness and pristine comfortability oozing from the décor and lighting. It instantly put me at ease (having previously been frustrated and agitated by a poor experience at the Aloft Baltimore). At check-in, the agent was very friendly and courteous, agreeing to award me both points and free drinks, with only a little push. The room had a large, wide open view, and the gym was spacious, much larger than most hotel gyms, especially those near airports. A highlight is the horizontal plants art in the lobby. Very avant-garde (at least in my perspective) and an excellent touch.

Lobby

As mentioned, it is very beautiful and clean. Just the relaxing atmosphere combined with the pristine layout worked wonders. The floral arrangement of horizontal plants was beautiful, inspiring ideas for our future place.

Room

We were upgraded to an executive corner room with a standard king bed. It had a wide view of the surrounding area, as well.

Hotel Space / Ambiance

It felt very business-like, with a well-attended bar and restaurant. The Westin caters to professionals through its efficient ambiance. The executive lounge was also a nice touch, with decent snacks (a lobster croquette, anyone?)

Food & Drink

The lounge snacks were decent. However, the burger at the restaurant was below average, with the fluffiness of the bun overpowering the taste of the burger, and the bacon being much too tough or hard to eat properly. For a burger, bacon should be crispy but not too crispy, and thick enough to provide flavor without wearing on teeth.

At the breakfast buffet, I was pleased with both the decent selection and made-to-order omelettes and waffles. Sausage and bacon, both turkey and pork, needed to be requested from a server. Not sure if they have it laid out earlier in the morning, as I tend to wait until the end of the breakfast window.

Fitness

Fitness Center!

Fitness Center!

The gym was very large, with ample space for working out. It leaned more towards being too large, however, as there was plenty of empty space as well.

The pool was also a nice touch – large enough for an comfortable swim. Empty when we checked it out, on a Thursday evening.

Miscellaneous

This Westin Baltimore experience did wonders to relieve some stress and frustration caused by the previous fiasco. The spartan, clean look always appeals to me, and the desk agent being more than willing to fulfill my requests made me feel warm and invited. At 7,000 Starpoints (Category 3), it was not the most ideal redemption (at under ~1.5CPP), but we needed an emergency hotel for the evening. They have a shuttle to the airport only a couple miles away. Additionally, the Arundel Mills mall, Maryland Live! Casino, and City of Baltimore are just a short jaunt away!
