It took a few days, but finally, I have flown under the new PED rules below 10,000 feet. It’s probably wrong that I took so much joy in keeping my iPad in the seatback pocket, and my iPhone on (in airplane mode) for pictures.
Immediately after takeoff I turned to reading my e-book.
But I think my hands down favorite part of the new #Below10Kfeet world was taking pictures during one of my favorite airport approaches in the country.
In summary, I really enjoyed the ability to read my e-book and take pictures during all phases of my flight. One thing I will have to be sure to do is pack my good camera even for these short trips. Taking pictures during landing, especially at Washington’s National Airport is fun flying entertainment. This has been a long time coming, and I’m glad Delta was one of the first out of the box with the new ability to allow PEDs below 10,000 feet.

I know most people are no longer able to survive even a few moments without being “wired” to something — God forbid anyone should ever hear a bird sing! But, isn’t this new policy giving tacit approval for everyone to don their noise-cancelling headsets and ignore the safety briefing, to be totally distracted in the event of an emergency, and to be totally oblivious to crew announcements in these critical parts of any flight?
