Fairmont Le Château Montebello is a rustic luxury property in the Fairmont portfolio. The property boasts of being the world’s largest wood cabin and was founded as a private club in 1930. This red Cedar log Chateau is located in a quaint village of Montebello, on the banks of Ottawa river, in Quebec, Canada. I was booked for a one night stay at the Fairmont King room which averages $225 CAD. Note that Fairmont hotels are now part of the Accor Hotels group.

My check-in experience was straight forward since I had already checked in online. The lobby reception was located in the main foyer as I walked into the entrance. To my surprise (no elite status), I was assigned an upgrade to Deluxe room (433) which was located on the end of the hallway of the 4th floor.

The hotel lobby oozes rustic elegance and  truly presents the charm of a wood cabin.

My room presented an old world charm with modern amenities. With dark cedar wood panels, the large room included a King bed along with a work desk, reading area, and a bathroom with luxury amenities.

Fairmont Le Château Montebello, Quebec – Dining and other Services

The resort has an impressive array of dining options from fine dining french restaurant to outdoor barbeque and bar seating by the river. The main restaurant, Aux Chantignoles served up french classics on their a-la-carte menu but also had an excellent buffet spread during lunch hours.

The expansive list of activities and services at the resort were good to keep patrons busy for several days. I was unable to sample them all but can attest to the beautiful setting of the outdoor pool, the excellent Spa where I spent 90 minutes of bliss and the riverfront paths for a stroll or jog.

My favorite restaurant setting was the outdoor grill and ‘Le Riverain Bar’ that serve up barbecue meals all summer long.

Fairmont Le Château Montebello also hosts an excellent bonfire setup that can be booked for a group. A tranquil evening with a setting sun coupled with a rainbow backdrop by the river, made my stay more than special.

Fairmont Le Château Montebello is a hidden gem and I would definitely recommend this resort if you plan to escape the city hussle, for rugged luxury in this part of the world. Cheers!
