Aer Lingus have a new frequent flyer programme called AerClub and there are new ways to earn Avios miles. The programme has a supermarket partner with SuperValu, as well as ways to earn with Electric Ireland and Bank of Ireland.

Members of the previous programme, Gold Circle, are vocal in their dismay over launch issues stemming largely from IT issues. Flights are not credited and some people are at a lower status level than they should be. Aer Lingus are working through these.

Find out all about the programme at this guide I put together in an earlier post. So what is this about 30,000 Avios?

Earn 30,000 Avios In One Go!

Subscribing to home delivery of the Irish Independent and Sunday Independent newspapers can now earn you 30,000 Avios. All you need to do is to go to this link and order a 6 month or 12 month subscription.

This is a pretty decent deal as it is a substantial number of Avios. The programme earns you Avios based on your spend per flight and if you are flying mainly on low fares it will take a €30,000 spend to get this many Avios. The newspaper subscription is €349.99 so it makes sense.

What Would I Use My 30,000 Avios On?

Reward flights, of course! You can transfer your Avios to British Airways Executive Club or to Iberia Plus if you wish. In the British Airways programme, it is 4,500 Avios for a flight from Dublin to London in Euro Traveller. To treat yourself, it is 9,000 Avios to fly in Club Europe.

Other nice ways to use them is for flight upgrades on British Airways. Book in World Traveller plus and use Avios to upgrade to Club World, something I find is a great use of the miles. It’s less than 30,000 Avios to upgrade one flight between London and the east coast of the USA so the benefits are obvious.

Overall Thoughts

People who read Irish Independent regularly and are AerClub members should be all over this deal. I would be if I was a regular reader as this many Avios does come in handy.
