Review: Crowne Plaza Hotel Copenhagen Towers, Denmark

For our first visit to Copenhagan, Denmark, my family and I booked a stay at the Crowne Plaza Hotel Copenhagen Towers.  The pricing was competitive for our travel dates, and the hotel is less than 10 minutes away (by rail) from the city center.

Airport Shuttle

For those traveling in from the Copenhagan (CPH) airport, the hotel offers a shuttle service.  No advance reservation is required for the outbound.  The shuttle runs on every 20 and 50 after the hour during its operating schedule, and you can catch the shuttle right outside Terminal 2.

Naturally, our timing is such that we got to the station just as the hotel shuttle was pulling away…

There is a nominal charge for the service (15DKK Danish Krone, or about €2). For return service (there are set times), just stop by the front desk to make a reservation.

Note:  You do not pay the driver; you can bill it to your room directly.  The shuttle also makes drop-offs at two other hotels en-route to Crowne Plaza.

What’s Around

 

The hotel is of walking distance to Fields, a shopping complex in the area.  According to wikipedia, the Fields is the “second biggest shopping centre in Denmark”.   It’s certainly a matter of perspective.  It’s a large complex, but I wouldn’t say it’s bigger than most malls in the states (or some of mega shopping complexes I’ve seen in Asia).  Because the hotel is located outside of the city center, the surrounding area is mostly businesses and other buildings.  There isn’t a lot going on in the immediate area, other than Fields.

IMPORTANT TIP: If you do make your way to Fields, be sure to head over to Burger King in the food court and try out the fresh, made-to-order wings off its menu.  I am underlining “important” for emphasis.  You can thank me later.

Nearest train/railway station

It’s very easy to get around from this hotel, because there is a train/railway station just a quick walk away. The station closest to the hotel is Ørestad.  It takes < 10 minutes to get to Copenhagen Central Station (København) on the rail.

Not pictured here is a recreational space (billiard/dart/foosball table) that is open to guests. You can “borrow” the pool ball set from the front desk, by exchanging for it with your ID.  (Note to self:  Let someone else take the break shot…)

I once wrote a post about flawed hotel room designs. There is a design flaw here, too. You see that short shower glass pane?   Sadly, it might as well be non-functional because you are virtually guaranteed to get the floors all wet (no matter how careful you are…)   Apparently, I wasn’t the only person who thinks that too!

In Summary

Crowne Plaza Copenhagen is a solid business hotel.  While it is located outside of the city center, the transportation options make it easy to get around.  If I were to visit Copenhagen again, I would want to explore a few other choices but I wouldn’t mind staying here again.

Although I tend to book near the city center whenever possible, I also enjoy the peace and quiet of staying at a place that’s not in the hustle and bustle of all the activities.  It’s nice to be able to come back after a full day out and soak in the calm of the evening.
