Flight connections are going to be a lot easier for British Airways passengers in the future. The airline is rolling out a package of enhancements which promises to further streamline the experience.

There are four elements to the new proposition for connections at London Heathrow. Considering a large number of people connect with British Airways, these are designed to remove the hassle for customers.

Worried About Missing Your Connecting Flight?

Certain people in danger of missing their connections at Heathrow have been provided with a chauffeur driven executive car to their next flight on a trial basis. This trial has been successful and is one element of the new experience.

Anyone travelling in First, Club World, or Club Europe plus Executive Club Gold and Silver members who are at risk of missing their connection will get this service in the future. This is a great addition to the product.

Easing Connections

Another simple thing being done by British Airways is to change how flights are allocated gates. Flights with a lot of connecting passengers will be given stands at the terminal that facilitate these people.

Where a lot of people are transferring from one flight to the same other flight, a vehicle will be provided to take them directly to the new flight. This will save a lot of walking around London Heathrow and much time.

Contacting People In The Air

Dedicated managers will monitor passengers with flight connections. For people still in the air, they will be contacted and given Express Connect status and information packs to fast-track them through flight connections and security.

Missing your connection while still on your way will mean you will automatically re-booked before you land. Cabin crew will then notify you of what is going on, which will reduce a lot of that in the air stress.

Connections staff will then meet you at the aircraft door and provide new boarding passes and anything else that might be required such as refreshment vouchers or overnight accommodation.

Overall Thoughts

Having experienced large delays and missing onward connections in the past, these elements address virtually every pain point when delays affect the time between your flights.

Knowing what is going on while still flying to the connecting airport will be a great thing. Hopefully it all works as it is supposed to as it has the potential to provide real benefits to passengers.
