Condor Airlines, the German Leisure carrier, is a very interesting airline. They offer seasonal flights to random airports, in my opinion. The airline flies to cities such as Baltimore, to far off places like Fairbanks, Alaska. They operate a fleet of Airbus aircraft, 757s and 767s. Condor for a very long time was affiliated to Lufthansa, but not they fly with the Thompson group of airlines. My favorite fact about Condor is that they were the only transatlantic airline to San Juan, Puerto Rico for a while. They fly to Frankfurt from PR, and from most US destinations. In some cases, they also fly to Munich.

Condor Adds Flights to the US

The airline has recently announced flights to new US destinations, and expansion to some routes. Per Marketwired, the airline will begin flying to Pittsburgh (which has recently been expanding as well), New Orleans and San Diego. These flights will all be to/from Frankfurt. The airline is also adding flights to Las Vegas and Seattle from Munich. This is the first Munich expansion in the US. Most of these flights will operate 2-4 times per week.

Strong US Presence

The airline has a solid US presence. They fly to a variety of destinations, such as Anchorage, Austin, Baltimore, Fairbanks, Minneapolis and Portland, among the ones mentioned. The airline offers many of these flights seasonally, and flies them with 767 aircraft. These 767s are equipped with three classes of service. For business class, they have 18 or 30 seats, all angled-flat. They have their own personal IFE. There is also a premium economy product, which is just extra legroom seating with enhanced benefits. Finally, there is economy class.

The airline has been steadily expanding and adding a series of routes to some of the cities in the US which have limited transatlantic service. They are one of the few airlines willing to venture into these markets, such as San Juan and New Orleans.

Landing Thoughts

I greatly admire Condor for adding flights to new destinations in the US. This especially so given that many of these cities are underserved internationally. The airline seems to have a decent business class product, at very reasonable prices. Some of their one way prices are less than half their competitors. I would be happy to try them someday, and be able experience what they really have to offer. I hope to see them add more flights to more destinations, hopefully San Antonio, Reno (NV) and St. Louis (MO). All these cities are primarily underserved internationally.

What do you think? Would you fly Condor out of these new destinations? Have you flown Condor before? What was your experience?
