As we learned earlier this week, American Express is opening up a new Centurion Lounge in Hong Kong. They currently operate 10 international affiliated lounges. These lounges, however, are not exactly like the Centurion Lounges in the US. In the United States, they have 7 locations. Among these are lounges in Seattle, Dallas, Miami, Houston, New York, Las Vegas and San Francisco.

These lounges are the best domestic lounges in the US, in my opinion. They offer premium food, drinks and wifi. Some of the lounges even have spas. For a full list of amenities at each location, see their website. They tend to overcrowd, however, because of how popular they are. Well, we have some Centurion Lounge updates for locations in the US.

New Lounge in Philadelphia

The collection is adding its 8th US location in Philadelphia! The new lounge will be located in Terminal A-West, where most international departures are. It will be located above the current British Airways lounge. According to One Mile at a Time, it will be 5,500 sq. feet. This means it will not be its largest location. It will have 6 bathrooms and one shower. As like most Centurion Lounges, it will have premium food and drinks available. Finally, given its location, it will not have much views, because it will be facing the check in hall.

Seattle Lounge Makeover

Another development in the Centurion Lounges regards its Seattle location. American Express had been looking to expand this location. It seems that now they have decided how the new lounge will look like. According to Zach Honig from The Points Guy, the lounge will be expanded by 1,400 sq feet. They will add a shower suite, more restrooms and a full bar. Given that Seattle is one of the fastest growing airports in the US, their expansion comes at no surprise. When you take into account Delta’s new Seattle Lounge which opened last year, the competition is on for the best lounge at Sea-Tac.

Landing Thoughts

As an American Airlines frequent flier, it makes me happy that Amex chose PHL for their new location. I am a fan of the Admiral’s Club, but it pales in comparison to the Centurion Lounge. With the ever expanding size of the collection of lounges, I am excited to see where they will open up their next one. Opening a lounge is difficult, because beyond the cost of building and operating, real estate needs to be available. We will see where they will build their next one. Maybe they will consider expanding other locations as well, such as the Miami lounge. I consistently find this lounge to be crowded, therefore maybe they can add a second one or expand their location. We will have to see what the future holds!
