British Airways are currently running a promotion where you can earn triple Avios miles on flights. In conjunction with this, they are also offering a free upgrade to First Class promotion which they tend to run at least once a year. Let’s have a look at the details.

Upgrade to First

Customers who have a Club World ticket with British Airways are eligible for a free upgrade to First Class. You need to hold a Club World ticket in the semi-flexible and flexible fare classes, which are R, D, C and J. Deeply discounted Club World tickets sold in the I class fare bucket are not eligible nor are award tickets.

You need to make your booking by 11 December 2016 and complete your outbound travel by 23 December 2016 and return travel by 30 December 2016. Existing bookings for travel during the period are not eligible – new bookings only.

Triple Avios

Members of the British Airways Executive Club can earn triple Avios on all flights up to a total of eight sectors. This promotion is open to all members of the Executive Club, no matter which country you are based in. British Airways operate services across the Atlantic in conjunction with American Airlines, Finnair and Iberia. You will earn triple Avios when flying on these carriers between Europe and North America also.

The triple Avios are awarded for all flights in any class that are booked and flown between 6 September 2016 and 11 December 2016. The triple Avios are awarded on the base Avios usually awarded for that sector. This means any cabin bonus or status bonus will not be tripled.

Executive Club Members should register for the offer before booking flights. Existing bookings made before 6 September 2016 for travel during the promotional period will not be eligible for triple Avios. The promotion applies only to new bookings made and flown during the period.

Overall Thoughts

The Free Upgrade to First promotion is very popular each year and has a very good take up. The First Class product is a nice step up from Club World and well worth a free upgrade. You gain access to the Galleries First lounge at London Heathrow which is worth a visit. Flying from New York or London Heathrow will give you access to the exclusive Concorde Room at each airport, while in Washington DC you will have access to the Concorde Dining Room. It’s a no brainer!

The triple Avios promotion is excellent news for Executive Club members. Any extra Avios are always very welcome to add to the pot, especially for those people like me who do not have access to a British Airways Credit Card. A very nice couple of promotions from BA!
