Around the world tickets are wonderful things and are offered by the major alliances. You can get up to 20 flights on a single ticket at a rate which is far better than buying all the segments individually.

My first experience in business class was on a oneworld around the world ticket that cost A$10,000 back in 2005. Right now, there is an excellent oneworld alliance around the world fare currently available out of Australia.

The Around The World Fare

Finnair is the airline selling this fare, and the sale lasts through to 16 March 2019. You can start your trip out of Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, Canberra, Cairns, Hobart, Darwin or Coolangatta.

The total stops permitted is five on the cheapest deal. Therefore you get two stops on the way, the place you want to go to, plus two stops on the return.

For the cheapest fare, you need to use the Helsinki to San Francisco flight in either direction. This runs between 15 May 2019 and 27 September 2019 on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday.

Within those constraints, you will get the fare for A$5,170. That fare translates to US$3,666 or €3,252. I think that’s a pretty decent price for oneworld business class.

Overall Thoughts

I quite like around the world fares. They usually have 12 months validity, so you’re able to plan travel over that kind of period. Very handy if you have a year off and decide to wander the globe for a little while.

If you are not a member of a frequent flyer programme before purchasing one of these tickets, I’d strongly advise doing so. You will usually rise up the ranks quite quickly.

Have you used around the world tickets before? What do you think of this deal? Thank you for reading and if you have any comments or questions, please leave them below.
