My previous post Laser Pointers and Aircraft Don’t Mix! has easily become my most “re-pinned” post from my @travelblawg Pinterest page. Every bit helps in spreading the word about how REALLY dangerous they can be to putting the crew and passengers of planes and helicopters at risk.

I continue to see news reports about incidents (a lot!) and press releases about the dangers of pointing a laser at aircraft. But this news report out of Palm Beach regarding a green laser pointed at a JetBlue plane while landing Monday night at Palm Beach International Airport (PBI) seems to have a twist. And it’s a twist I’m still not quite sold on.

Shining a laser at an aircraft is a senseless act which places the lives of aircrews and passengers at risk.

Watch the article’s video here.

  • Was this guy “just out back playing with his dog” when the laser light “must have gone over the fence” and into the JetBlue pilots’ eyes?
  • Is there some underlying guilt or remorse at play here? Fearing being identified, would someone proactively come forward to claim accidental or incidental results with a dog toy laser?
  • Maybe his dog-and-laser show has nothing to do with the Monday night incident?

I’m curious what your thoughts are?
Ever encountered such illegal use of a laser pointer yourself?
