Air Tahiti is a domestic and regional airline based in French Polynesia and not to be confused with Air Tahiti Nui, the flag carrier of the country.

Air Tahiti have a pretty extensive route map that covers the different archipelagos of French Polynesia; the Society Islands – including Tahiti, Moorea and Bora Bora, the Tuamotu Islands, the Austral Islands and the Marquesas Islands. These different archipelagos are spread over an enormous area in the South Pacific and are home to some true paradises.

The most popular of these is Bora Bora, with its luxurious over water accommodations and the stunning Mount Otemanu. French Polynesia has far more to offer than just Bora Bora though. Any quick Google on the subject is bound to retrieve all sorts of discussions on the different islands, many of which are likely comparing Bora Bora and Moorea. Spoiler alert: these discussions invariably conclude that Moorea is all about the beauty of the island whereas Bora Bora is all about the beauty of the lagoon.

Moorea is actually just a short cheap ferry from Tahiti and can even be done as a day trip if you absolutely have to, though this is definitely not recommended as the island has more than enough to see and do to warrant at least a couple of days.

Beyond these more famous destinations, there are hundreds of other beautiful paradise islands in French Polynesia, many of which are served by Air Tahiti and can be easily and (relatively) cheaply reached on a multi-island tour fare. There are a number of multi-island itineraries that can be put together on Air Tahiti’s website.

The Bora Bora-Tuamotu Pass.

So, this pass get’s you from Tahiti to Moorea, Huahine, Raiatea, Maupiti, Bora Bora, Rangiroa, Tikehau and Fakarava and back to Tahiti for EUR570 per adult which is currently about AU$870. That’s a fair amount of money but you have to keep in mind that a simple return ticket from Tahiti to Bora Bora will set you back EUR329 or AU$500.

So for an extra $370 you’re getting to an additional 7 islands. And not just any islands, these are all true South Seas paradise destinations.

If 9 islands and $880 isn’t quite what you’re looking for, maybe have a look at the Bora Bora Pass.

So that’s EUR417 or about AU$645 to visit Moorea, Huahine, Raiatea, Bora Bora and Maupiti from Tahiti. Compared to a simple return PPT-BOB, that works out to be an extra 4 islands for AU$135! That’s definitely adding a whole lot to your once-in-a-lifetime trip to Bora Bora for a very reasonable marginal cost! (By the way, holidays to Bora Bora are almost always referred to as once-in-a-lifetime but that’s very rarely the case. You will almost definitely make a return trip happen once you’ve experienced it.)

So, when planning your trip to French Polynesia, it’s definitely worth checking out these multi-island tour passes on Air Tahiti’s website. Do a bit of research on the different islands, accommodation options and look at the amount of time and money you’ve got for the trip and hopefully you’ll be able to add some extra paradise destinations to your itinerary.
